In a meeting, the player’s lawyers and club executives agreed to maintain the R$ 42 million debt, with the full amount, plus interest and a fine, becoming due if any of the four semi-annual instalments is missed. The deal also provides for unilateral termination in the event of delayed payments.

The latest terms still need to be formalised and approved by both sides, so a mooted signing on Saturday did not happen. With Corinthians facing Red Bull Bragantino on Sunday at 18:30 Brasília time, the contract could be signed on Monday.

The most recent sticking point was a clause demanding accelerated repayment of the debt if any instalment was late, which would have forced the club to settle the entire balance at once with interest and a fine.

Memphis’s camp argued the club offered insufficient guarantees on the debt and sought to avoid interest and fines on any future delays, keeping the current amount frozen.

Corinthians, meanwhile, objected to a unilateral rescission trigger tied to delays in paying commercial rights and collective bonuses. Behind the scenes, president Osmar Stabile still faces resistance from parts of the board and political groups opposed to renewing the 32-year-old forward, although optimism has grown in recent days as he pushes the deal forward.
