The STJD has suspended Corinthians assistant coach Lucas Silvestre for three matches on Thursday, following his February dismissal for abusing match officials.
According to Meu Timao, he was sent off against Athletico Paranaense at Arena da Baixada on 19 February, shown a straight red at 54 minutes of the second half, then tried under articles 243-C, threats, and 258, unsporting conduct, of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice.
The match report recorded an offensive expletive aimed at referee Rodrigo José Pereira de Lima, then remarks to the fourth official interpreted as threatening. It noted the fourth official felt offended.
Both clubs were also charged under article 213 after flares were lit, Corinthians for igniting them and Athletico for allowing entry. Corinthians were additionally cited under article 206 for delaying the second-half restart by four minutes. Both teams were acquitted on those counts.
The sanction is a first-instance ruling, so Corinthians can appeal. Silvestre has rejected the wording attributed to him, saying he questioned the added time with a swear word, that the fourth official misheard, and that he sought an explanation after being dismissed.
Club lawyer Sérgio Ventura argued the delay charge should be converted to article 191, which carries a fine between 100 and 100,000 reais, and said the club cannot control supporters’ actions. He also maintained there was no threat, requesting absolution or, alternatively, only article 258 for disrespect.
Corinthians visit Chapecoense on Thursday night in the seventh round of the Brasileirão at Arena Condá, kick-off 21:30.
