Corinthians boast over 60% success rate in Paulistão semi-finals

On the night of this Saturday (28), Corinthians faces Novorizontino at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), at Estádio Jorge Ismael de Biasi, known as Jorjão, in a match valid for the semifinals of the 2026 Campeonato Paulista. In the quarterfinals, the Alvinegro knocked out Portuguesa on penalties at Canindé, while their opponent eliminated Santos by winning 2-1 at home.

Among the four semifinalists, Alvinegro has the fourth-best campaign with 15 points. The team from the countryside, on the other hand, has the best performance, with 19 points accumulated so far. In tonight's match, the club from Parque São Jorge seeks to continue improving its performance in the semifinals of the Campeonato Paulista.

Throughout its history, Corinthians has played in the semifinals of the Campeonato Paulista 23 times, having qualified on 15 occasions and being eliminated in eight, which represents a success rate of 65.22%. In addition, there have been 50 goals scored and 41 conceded. Focusing on the 21st century, that is, since 2001, there have been 10 qualifications and four eliminations in state semifinals.

Of these 10 qualifications, the club from Parque São Jorge lifted the trophy in eight editions (2001, 2003, 2009, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2025). The opponent Corinthians faced most often in semifinals during this period was São Paulo (2009, 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022), having been eliminated by their rival only once (2022).

The last Campeonato Paulista semifinal played by Corinthians was precisely in 2025, when they beat Santos 2-1 at the Neo Química Arena, with goals from striker Yuri Alberto and midfielder Rodrigo Garro. The campaign ended with a Corinthians title, who defeated Palmeiras in the final by 1-0 on aggregate over two matches.

This century, Corinthians did not reach the semifinals in 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2014, 2023, and 2024. In the first year, the club from Parque São Jorge did not participate in the tournament, which was only contested by teams from the countryside. In the second, they fought against relegation. Between 2005 and 2008, the Paulistão was played in a single round-robin format with 20 teams. In 2014 and 2024, Timão was eliminated in the group stage. In 2023, they fell to Ituano, in Itaquera, in the quarterfinals.
