Corinthians boss boasts over 90% success rate in knockout ties this decade

Corinthians became champions over Flamengo in the Supercopa Rei, consolidating Dorival Júnior's victorious performance in knockout matches. In the current decade, which began in 2021, the coach has an overall success rate of 91.7% in this type of game, being eliminated only twice.

According to a survey by Sofascore, the professional led 24 knockout competitions, advancing in 22. At Corinthians, there were only two, ending with two titles won – the Copa do Brasil and the Supercopa. Dorival Júnior's eliminations were by São Paulo, in the 2023 Libertadores, and the Brazilian National Team, in the 2024 Copa América.

For the Brazilian National Team, it was the last time he fell in a knockout match. There have been six for Corinthians, with six positive results. The matches were against Novorizontino, Palmeiras, Athletico-PR, Cruzeiro, and Vasco da Gama, in the Copa do Brasil, with the last one against Flamengo, as mentioned.

In the challenges he faced this decade, he was only not a champion with Ceará and the Brazilian National Team. At Flamengo, in 2022, he won the Copa do Brasil and the Libertadores, even defeating Timão in the national tournament final. At São Paulo, he also won the national cup, eliminating the People's Team in the semifinal, once again.
