Corinthians captain Gustavo Henrique protested at the foul awarded by referee Lucas Canetto Bellote, a decision that preceded Santos’ late equaliser in Thursday’s clássico.
The incident came early in stoppage time. On the break, Lautaro Díaz tried to dribble Gustavo Henrique, was dispossessed, but the referee whistled for a foul against the defender. From the resulting free-kick, Gabriel Barbosa drove in the leveller.
The player said in a post that Díaz stepped on his foot in the build-up. He shared images of the challenge and a swollen, bruised foot after full-time.
Beyond the decision that cost Corinthians points, supporters also criticised Bellote’s display, notably the number of yellow cards. In total, 11 players were booked, six from Santos and five from Corinthians, and both head coaches were cautioned.
This was the 13th Corinthians match overseen by Bellote. With him in charge, the team have 11 wins and two draws.
The draw kept Corinthians seventh in the Paulista on five points, level with Velo Clube and Botafogo-SP, the first sides outside the knockout places. Corinthians hold the edge on zero goal difference, while the pair are negative.
