Corinthians drew 0-0 with Palmeiras on Sunday in a derby marked by two Corinthians red cards and a lengthy injury list. After the game, Fernando Diniz provided updates on Memphis Depay and Kaio César.

According to Meu Timao, Diniz said both are in recovery. He added that Depay tried to play but was not fit, while Kaio is progressing without a clear return date.

Kaio is nearing a month out after a right hamstring injury diagnosed on 19 March, shortly before facing Chapecoense. Depay sustained a right anterior thigh strain during the move for Corinthians’ equaliser against Flamengo on 22 March.

Depay’s social media activity became a pre-derby talking point, with one post interpreted by some as a dig at the club. He later posted on X to reaffirm his commitment, saying he had wanted to play but could not because of mistakes that occurred.

Called up by the Netherlands in March, Depay, the club and the Dutch federation agreed he would undergo treatment abroad after he was withdrawn through injury. Asked about possible friction with the medical staff, Diniz stressed the need for clear communication and said initial conversations left him confident of a harmonious working relationship.

Depay’s deal runs to 20 June and, while he has shown interest in renewing, talks have not begun. Diniz believes keeping him would help the team and aims to make the forward feel increasingly at home. Corinthians host Independiente Santa Fe on Wednesday in the Copa Libertadores second round, and Depay is likely to remain sidelined.
