Corinthians beat Rosario Central 1-0 at Neo Química Arena on Thursday night, booking a place in the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals and ending over two years without a home win against Argentine opposition.
Before this, their last such victory at the stadium came on 14 May 2024, a 4-0 win over Argentinos Juniors. Yuri Alberto scored twice, with Fausto Vera and Wesley also on target. That result clinched top spot in the Sudamericana group under then coach António Oliveira.
Between those wins, Corinthians went three home games without beating Argentine clubs, including a 0-2 loss to Platense on 27 May in the final round of the Libertadores group stage.
Since the stadium opened in 2014, Corinthians have faced Argentine sides 14 times there in continental competition, with five wins, five draws and four defeats. They have scored 16 and conceded 12, a 47.62% points return.
Rosario Central now join Boca Juniors, Newell's Old Boys, Estudiantes and Argentinos Juniors on the list of Argentine teams beaten by Corinthians at the Arena.
In the last eight, Corinthians face Estudiantes, with the first leg in the week of 8 September at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, known as Uno, and the return at Neo Química Arena in the week of the 15th of next month.
