Corinthians were beaten 3-1 by Fluminense at Neo Química Arena in the 28th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, extending a dismal spell. The result matches an unwanted 20-year low.

Meu Timao notes the slide began on 16 August with a 2-1 home loss to Cruzeiro, then 2-1 at Coritiba, 0-1 at home to Santos and 1-2 at home to Chapecoense, followed by last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Flamengo.

It is Corinthians' first six-match losing streak in the Brasileirão since May to July 2006, when they lost to Internacional, Santos, Goiás, Flamengo, Cruzeiro and Palmeiras.

Across all competitions they are seven games without a win, spanning the league and the Copa Libertadores, from which they exited at the quarter-finals. They are nearing their worst winless sequence of the year, nine matches between February and April, a run that ended with Dorival Júnior's dismissal.

At Neo Química Arena they have now lost four in a row in all competitions, the longest losing home streak in the stadium's history.

They remain 14th on 32 points. The margin to the relegation zone is three points, while the gaps to the Sudamericana and Libertadores places are four and 14 respectively.

A pause for the FIFA international window leaves them without a fixture for just over two weeks. They return on Wednesday 7 October at 19:30, away to Internacional at Beira-Rio in round 29.
