Corinthians finish Brasileirão with poor record vs G7 and relegated sides

On the afternoon of last Sunday (7), Corinthians concluded their journey in the Brazilian Championship against Juventude at the Neo Química Arena, ending in a 1-1 draw. Midfielder José Martínez scored the Corinthians' goal midway through the first half. With this, the Alvinegro finished the tournament in 13th place, with 47 points (12 wins, 11 draws, and 15 losses – 42 goals scored and 47 conceded).

Corinthians' poor campaign in the national tournament can also be explained by their performance against the four relegated teams: Ceará, Fortaleza, Juventude, and Sport. In eight games (home and away) against each of these teams, there were only two wins, two draws, and four losses – Seven goals scored and nine conceded – 33.3% success rate.

These numbers against the Z4 teams would place Corinthians in 18th position, with a success rate only higher than Juventude (30%) and Sport (14%). The performance was also below par against the teams that qualified for the Libertadores: Flamengo, Palmeiras, Cruzeiro, Mirassol, Fluminense, Botafogo (preliminary phase), and Bahia (preliminary phase).

In total, there were 14 games against these teams, with only two wins, five draws, and seven losses – 26.1% success rate, along with 12 goals scored and 22 conceded. This performance would place Corinthians in the second-to-last position in the Brasileirão, only with a better campaign than Sport (14%).

Considering the first and second rounds, Corinthians improved their success rate by 5.3%, but still had more losses than wins. In the first 19 games, there were five wins, seven draws, and seven losses – 18 goals scored and 23 conceded, with a success rate of 38.5%. In the second half, the Alvinegro had seven wins, four draws, and eight losses – 24 goals scored and 24 conceded, 43.8% success rate.

Moreover, Corinthians' offensive performance in this Brasileirão was the second worst of the decade, only better than in 2021, when they scored 40 times. In 2025, they found the net 42 times. In 2022, it was 44 goals. In 2023, 47 goals scored. Last year, it was 54 goals.

Regarding defensive performance, the Alvinegro conceded 47 goals, with a performance only better than in 2023, when they were breached 48 times. In 2020 and 2024, 45 goals were conceded. In the 2021 season, 36 goals were conceded. In 2022, it was 36 as well.
