Corinthians right-back Gi Fernandes has been withdrawn from Brazil’s women’s squad for the March friendlies after a rectus femoris injury in her left thigh. Head coach Arthur Elias has called up Bruninha, of Gotham FC in the United States, as her replacement.
She felt discomfort in the area early in Friday’s 2-2 draw with Fluminense in the Campeonato Brasileiro and left the pitch, later limping as she exited the stadium. Gi said in a social media post that missing out was painful and that this had been her first senior call-up.
Left-back Isabela of Paris Saint-Germain has also been withdrawn with a right biceps femoris injury, with Pachuca forward Aline Gomes drafted in by Elias.
She began treatment and underwent tests the next day, but the diagnosis confirmed the injury and the recovery time is not sufficient for this window.
Corinthians still have several players away with Brazil, including Lelê, Thais Ferreira, Tamires, Duda Sampaio, Ana Vitória, Gabi Zanotti and Jaqueline. Dayana Rodríguez, Belén Aquino and Gisela Robledo are away with Venezuela, Uruguay and Colombia respectively.
Owing to the FIFA window, the Brabas return to action on 13 March, when they face Palmeiras at 21:30 at Arena Barueri in round three of the Brasileiro Feminino.
