Hugo Souza will face Ángel Di María again as Corinthians host Rosario Central on Thursday at 21:30 in the Copa Libertadores last 16 second leg at Neo Química Arena. If the tie is level after 90 minutes, it will be decided on penalties.

According to Meu Timao, the pair have recent form against each other from Portugal, when Hugo was at Chaves and Di María at Benfica.

The first leg finished 0-0 at the Estádio Gigante de Arroyito. Benfica won the first of their 2023/24 meetings 2-0.

The rematch on 29 March 2024 at Estádio da Luz ended 1-0 to Benfica, yet Hugo starred. He saved a Di María penalty and two Arthur Cabral spot-kicks, although one was ruled out for encroachment.

That display became one of his standout moments in Portugal. Months later he joined Corinthians, helped lift the team out of the 2024 Brasileiro relegation zone and contributed to three trophies in the last two years.

A Rosario Central academy product, Di María returned to the club in 2025 after a European career with Benfica, Real Madrid, Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

Corinthians will progress with any win on the night. The winners will face Estudiantes or Universidad Católica in the quarter-finals.
