Corinthians announced Memphis Depay’s exit on Tuesday, saying the call was made solely to protect the club’s financial health. Before that decision, all terms of a renewed deal had been settled between the parties.
According to Meu Timao, the contract would run from August 2026 to July 2028, with total wages of R$ 24,062,500. That is a sizeable cut on the previous deal, just over R$ 32 million, with a 26 percent lower monthly average.
Grace to cure arrears rose from 15 to 40 days, and two months of default would still let Memphis rescind or refuse to play. Image rights worth R$ 28.6 million would be paid through February 2030, with reduced penalties and club usage unless he objected in writing.
Commercially, the club guaranteed R$ 15.4 million from deals it sourced, paid in four tranches by July 2028, topping up any shortfall. Excess would be split 80 percent to Memphis. He would have to accept good-faith offers of at least R$ 700,000.
Benefits included up to R$ 250,000 a month for housing, transport and security, 12 business-class return flights over 24 months, and an exclusive skybox at Neo Química Arena with occasional access to a second. A clause granting stadium event dates was vetoed.
Corinthians also acknowledged a net R$ 42,029,178 owed to Memphis, to be paid in four equal instalments through May 2028, with some labour items excluded. New delays beyond 40 days would trigger accelerated maturity, a five percent fine and one percent monthly interest.
