Corinthians honoured Emerson Sheik at Neo Química Arena before a 1-0 home defeat to Internacional on Sunday in the 10th round of the Brasileiro. According to Meu Timao, club president Osmar Stabile presented the former forward with a personalised shirt.

The club highlighted his visit to Itaquera with a social media post, noting that Stabile welcomed Sheik and handed over a black and white shirt carrying his name and the number 11.

Sheik remains one of Corinthians’ recent idols, winning seven trophies across two spells from 2011 to 2015 and in 2018. His major honours include the 2012 Copa Libertadores and Club World Cup, the Brasileirões of 2011 and 2015, the 2013 and 2018 Campeonato Paulista titles and the 2013 Recopa Sudamericana.

In total he made 196 appearances and scored 28 goals for the Timão.

After retiring, he served as the club’s football manager from January to November 2019, a role he accepted under then president Andrés Sanchez. He resigned in November during an unstable period in the position.
