Corinthians beat Red Bull Bragantino 2-0 on Thursday in the Campeonato Brasileiro. Gabriel Paulista and Matheus Bidu scored, and goalkeeper Hugo Souza saved Isidro Pitta's penalty 14 minutes into the second half with the score 1-0.
According to Meu Timao, Hugo now has 11 penalty saves for Corinthians, four against Bragantino, his most versus any opponent. The previous three came in the 2024 Copa Sudamericana round of 16 shoot-out, and the Bragança side had not missed again until Thursday.
It was his fifth penalty saved in regulation for Corinthians. The others were against Novorizontino, Athletico Paranaense and Palmeiras twice, the latest from Raphael Veiga in the 2025 Paulistão final.
In shoot-outs, beyond the three versus Bragantino, he has four more stops, one against Grêmio in the 2024 Copa do Brasil and two against Cruzeiro in 2025. Aside from Cristaldo's kick for Grêmio, each would have eliminated Corinthians if converted.
Thursday's save puts him joint third for penalty saves among Corinthians goalkeepers alongside Gylmar dos Santos Neves. Ahead are Ronaldo Giovanelli with 27 in 602 games and Cássio with 32 in 712.
The result lifted Corinthians off the bottom to 12th after two games. Next up is São Bernardo on Sunday at 20:30, the final round of the Paulistão first phase.
