Corinthians in talks to keep duo, discuss Fagner’s exit

Corinthians returned to training at the Dr. Joaquim Grava Training Center this Saturday (3), focusing on the start of the 2026 season. This year, the Alvinegro will compete in the Supercopa do Brasil, Copa do Brasil, Paulistão, Campeonato Brasileiro, and Conmebol Libertadores.

Through an official statement, Corinthians announced the departures of Ángel Romero and Talles Magno, as well as the status of players returning from loan. Additionally, the club confirmed ongoing negotiations to renew the contracts of left-back Fabrizio Angileri and midfielder Maycon. On the other hand, the Alvinegro also confirmed that they are negotiating the termination of the contract with right-back Fagner, who has a contract until the end of 2026 and was loaned to Cruzeiro in 2025.

The first was signed by Corinthians in February 2025, with the approval of Ramón Díaz's technical staff, initially securing the starting position at left-back. However, after winning the 2025 Paulistão against Palmeiras and the change in technical staff – with Dorival Júnior arriving in late April – the Argentine's performance declined, and he lost his spot to Matheus Bidu, who regained the position after starting the previous year on a low note.

Since then, number 26 has been used in various opportunities as a third defender by Dorival Júnior. His contract with Corinthians ended on December 31, and the parties are still discussing his continuation at Parque São Jorge – Angileri was not at the Dr. Joaquim Grava Training Center this Saturday. In total, he has played 42 matches for Corinthians (26 as a starter) and provided two assists. So far, he has won two titles with the club: Paulista and Copa do Brasil 2025.

Maycon

Meanwhile, midfielder Maycon's loan contract with Corinthians, from Shakhtar Donetsk, Ukraine, ended on December 31, and the parties are negotiating his continuation. Number 7 has been on loan at Alvinegro since 2022. This time, Alvinegro aims to purchase the player outright for two years and retain 50% of his economic rights.

The midfielder was a key player for Dorival Júnior's team in the second half, especially in the campaign for the Copa do Brasil's fourth championship. Overall, in two stints with Corinthians' professional team, the "Son of Terrão" has accumulated 18 goals and 16 assists in 247 matches, winning five titles: Paulistão (2017, 2018, and 2025), Copa do Brasil (2025), and Brasileirão (2017). In 2015, he won the Copa São Paulo with Timãozinho.

Meanwhile, right-back Fagner, who has a contract with Corinthians until December 31, 2026, is negotiating a contract termination with Alvinegro to remain at Cruzeiro, the club he was loaned to in 2025, playing 17 official matches and providing one assist.

Fagner was becoming a starter for the Minas Gerais team until he suffered a severe tibia injury in late July, returning to the field only at the end of the Brasileirão. With Tite in command, with whom he worked at Corinthians and the Brazilian National Team, Raposa is interested in retaining the player.

Number 23 lost his place at Corinthians in the second half of 2024 after the arrival of Ramón Díaz and the subsequent rise of Matheuzinho. Revealed in Corinthians' youth categories, debuting for the club in 2006 and returning in 2014, Fagner has accumulated 12 goals and 76 assists in 576 games for Corinthians (seventh in the club's history). Additionally, he has won five titles: Brasileirão (2015 and 2017) and Campeonato Paulista (2017, 2018, and 2019).
