Corinthians keeper returns as first choice for first time since 2025

On the evening of last Thursday (13th), Corinthians visited Ferroviária at Arena Fonte Luminosa, in a match valid for the 13th and penultimate round of the first phase of the Women's Paulista Championship and ended up drawing 0-0. The result secured the Alvinegro at the top of the first phase with 32 points (10 wins, two draws, and one loss – 29 goals scored and six conceded).

The match marked the third consecutive game for goalkeeper Lelê among the starters of the Brabas, matching her streak from the beginning of the season after dealing with physical issues and problems in her left knee. In March 2025, the Corinthians goalkeeper also played three consecutive times in the Women's Super Cup, in victories over Grêmio (3 x 0) and Cruzeiro (1 x 0), in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively, as well as the goalless draw against São Paulo, in the final, at Morumbi.

On that day, Corinthians finished as runners-up after being defeated in a penalty shootout against the Morumbi team. This year, the number 12 jersey spent five months off the field due to the aforementioned issues with her left knee. Additionally, in 2024, she missed the entire season dealing with an ACL injury, having to undergo daily load control and muscle strengthening exercises.

Lelê returned to action only in August this year and has since played seven matches across the Paulista Championship, Libertadores, and Copa do Brasil. Her contract ends at the end of this season and her future is uncertain. She has been the starting goalkeeper after Nicole underwent surgery on a finger, which broke during the 2025 Women's Libertadores final against Deportivo Cali-COL.

The Corinthians number 12 played in the 3 x 1 victory at Fazendinha against São Paulo and the goalless draw with Palmeiras at Arena Barueri, both in the final stretch of the first phase of the Paulista Championship. This week, she was also called up to the Brazilian Women's National Team by coach Arthur Elias for friendlies against Norway and Portugal in December.

In 171 matches wearing the Corinthians jersey (169 as a starter), with 129 wins, 28 draws, and 14 losses – almost 81% success rate, she has won 15 titles, including Libertadores, Brazilian Championship, Paulista Championship, Women's Super Cup, Copa Paulista, and Copa do Brasil.
