Corinthians beat Peñarol 2-0 on Thursday in the Libertadores group stage, staying top of Group E with three wins from three.
The Brazilian side also recorded 2-0 wins over Platense in Argentina in their group opener, and over Independiente Santa Fe in Itaquera.
This marks the club’s second-best start in the competition, matching 2003, when they opened with victories against Cruz Azul 1-0, Fénix 2-1 and The Strongest 4-1.
Next up is Santa Fe away on Wednesday, 6 May, when Fernando Diniz’s team could achieve the best start in the club’s Libertadores history. The benchmark was set in 2015 under Tite, with wins over São Paulo 2-0, San Lorenzo 1-0, and Danubio 2-1 and 4-0, before a draw with the Argentines.
Corinthians lead Group E on nine points from three matches, Platense are second on six, while Peñarol and Independiente Santa Fe have one apiece.
Attention now turns to the Campeonato Brasileiro, with a trip to Mirassol on Sunday at 20:30 at Estádio José Maria de Campos Maia in the 14th round.
