Corinthians may skip Copa do Brasil champions patch over sponsorship clash

Corinthians might compete in the 2026 season without displaying the Brazilian Cup champion patch on their uniform. According to GE, despite the sporting achievement granting the right to use the insignia, the club faces a commercial impasse involving companies in the betting sector.

Corinthians' main sponsor, Esportes da Sorte, is a direct competitor of Betano, the company that holds the naming rights for the Brazilian Cup. The official patch made by the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) bears the name “Copa Betano do Brasil”, which conflicts with the club's current contract.

According to the agreement with Esportes da Sorte, Corinthians is prohibited from displaying other betting companies' brands on their game shirt. Internally, the marketing department believes that using the patch, even as a tribute to the title won, could cause friction with one of its main commercial partners.

In light of the situation, the club's management has requested authorization from the CBF to use an alternative version of the patch, without mentioning Betano, with only the inscription “Copa do Brasil”. If the entity approves, the club intends to produce the patches and use them throughout the season.

A similar situation has already occurred in Brazilian football. In 2023, São Paulo, the Brazilian Cup champion that season, chose not to use the official patch due to a conflict of interest between the betting house sponsoring the competition and the company on their shirt.

While the impasse over the national tournament is still under discussion, Corinthians has already confirmed the use of the 2025 Paulista Championship champion patch. The debut of the state insignia is scheduled for the classic against Palmeiras, next Sunday, at the Neo Química Arena. So far, Timão has played the first rounds of the Paulistão without the patch.

People connected to the club reported that the initial absence of the state tribute was due to the short interval between the end of the last season and the start of 2026, as well as bureaucratic issues related to the production and delivery of the material.
