Corinthians have missed the latest deadline to settle their debt to Talleres for Rodrigo Garro, with payment now hinging on final digital signatures to formalise the paperwork. All sides have agreed terms and are aligned on the process.

According to ESPN, the clubs signed a commitment last Thursday to clear US$ seven million net owed to Talleres.

The case stems from a FIFA ruling in February 2025 for US$3.6 million. Corinthians appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to avoid another transfer ban, and talks stalled for months amid a fraught relationship with ousted president Augusto Melo, who signed Garro in 2024.

To meet the obligation, investment firm Outfield will assume the debt, a move approved by the club’s Cori. Corinthians will repay US$8.5 million across 26 monthly instalments at CDI plus one per cent per year, about 15.4%, secured on TV and advertising income. Finalising that operation proved difficult, though it advanced last week.

Talleres president Andrés Fassi set Friday 12 June as a final date under threat of going to CAS, then granted an extension. He said the club accepted one last delay to show willingness to reach agreement and noted Corinthians’ intent to collaborate.

Under new president Osmar Stabile, Corinthians reopened dialogue and he travelled to Córdoba, saying in April that Cori had approved the plan. Financial pressure remains acute, with a fresh FIFA transfer ban over money owed to Philadelphia Union for José Martínez and May salaries for Fernando Diniz’s squad still unpaid.
