The Court of Arbitration for Sport has ordered Corinthians to pay more than R$ 6 million to Midtjylland after breaching the agreement for midfielder Charles, concluded in the second half of 2024.
According to ge.globo, the decision was published on 31 March this year and the club have 45 days to settle the debt or risk another transfer ban.
The case concerns the third and final instalment of a €1.6 million deal agreed under president Augusto Melo, to be paid in three tranches. The last €800,000 fell due on 15 March 2025 and was not paid. The contract also set a €200,000 late-payment penalty.
Midtjylland took the dispute to FIFA and prevailed in October 2025. Corinthians appealed to CAS but lost again. The club must now pay the €800,000 outstanding plus the €200,000 fine, annual interest of 12%, a US$ 60,000 penalty, about R$ 294,000, and legal costs.
Separately, the board are negotiating with Talleres over R$ 42 million owed for midfielder Rodrigo Garro. Failure to agree could see Corinthians included again on FIFA’s list that blocks clubs from registering new players.
Since joining, Charles has made 72 appearances, 37 as a starter. With him on the pitch, Corinthians have 40 wins, 22 draws and 10 defeats. He has scored two goals and supplied one assist as number 35.
