Corinthians president on Caixa debt for Neo Química Arena financing

The president of the Corinthians Deliberative Council, Romeu Tuma Júnior, held a press conference on the afternoon of this Monday, the 8th, at Parque São Jorge, and suggested that the club halt the payment of the Neo Química Arena debt, estimated at around R$ 668 million in the 2024 financial statements, to prioritize more urgent obligations.

“We have to solve the stadium problem at Caixa. We have to change the fund that is managing the whole problem. I am the president of the Council, I don't command anything. I think Corinthians has to solve the problem at Caixa. If not, stop paying, stop paying for the stadium. Pay the debts we have, which are more urgent to avoid blockages“, Tuma advocated at the end of the conference, whose main agenda was to present the Statutory Reform schedule.

Reag Distribuidora de Títulos e Valores Imobiliários, responsible for managing the Arena Fund, is under investigation for alleged involvement with organized crime, as reported by the UOL Esporte portal last week. João Carlos Mansur, a Palmeiras advisor and founder of the company, even resigned from his position.

It is worth remembering that in November 2024, Gaviões da Fiel, the main organized supporters group of Corinthians, launched a fundraising campaign, Donate Arena Corinthians, with the aim of settling the club's debt related to the financing of the Neo Química Arena construction with Caixa Econômica Federal, in 2014. So far, the campaign has raised R$ 40,887,567.21, already transferred to the bank, and its duration has been extended until December this year.

From the beginning, the campaign has the support of current and former Corinthians players, as well as personalities linked to the club, notable fans, artists, politicians, and digital influencers. Among the ambassadors helping to promote the project on social media are players Romero and Tamires. Romeu Tuma Júnior himself was one of the donors and even shared his contribution certificate on his social networks.
