Corinthians president Osmar Stabile faces home protest as Depay row deepens | OneFootball

Protest banners were hung at the home of Corinthians president Osmar Stabile overnight from Thursday into Friday, calling for him to step down as pressure intensifies.

According to Globo.com, the messages, signed by the collective Pixadores da Fiel (PDF), urged judicial intervention at Corinthians and warned that peace at the São Paulo club was over.

The escalation comes after Stabile chose on Tuesday not to renew Memphis Depay’s contract following months of negotiations.

Depay felt offended by the handling of the talks and vowed to seek the necessary measures to receive R$ 42 million to which he is entitled, a sum that, with interest, penalties and indexation, now stands around R$ 77 million.

His representatives are also studying legal action to enforce a US$ 20 million termination clause tied to the unsigned deal, worth about R$ 103 million at the current rate.

While Stabile has said the decision was based on financial factors, his critics allege political interference from influential councillors and associates at Parque São Jorge as the real reason.

The club currently faces three active transfer bans, debts of more than R$ 2.7 billion, and inquiries conducted by the Ministério Público.
