According to Gazeta Esportiva, Corinthians president Osmar Stabile has filed a precautionary request with the club’s Ethics and Discipline Commission to sideline Romeu Tuma Júnior from the Deliberative Council presidency, alleging threats and coercion.
He revealed an intimidation episode on Friday while addressing Monday’s CD meeting ahead of a vote on statute reforms.
Stabile grounded the request in articles 27, 28 and 30 of the club statute on member sanctions. Tuma cites article 89 to resist, arguing the Ethics body cannot impose an interim suspension.
At Monday’s session, he described a dinner where Tuma allegedly told him to comply or face consequences. Legal chief Pedro Luis Soares supported his account, saying it happened at Parque São Jorge.
Tuma countered by criticising the rehiring of security guard Aldair Borges, linked in police statements to a January 2025 invasion, and warned he would go to the press. The row caused uproar and a 10-minute pause.
The CD presidency then applied article 45, sending the draft directly to a General Assembly on 18 April, a move criticised by the Conselho de Orientação.
If Tuma is removed, vice-president Leonardo Pantaleão would lead the CD, and Maria Angela Ocampos, now Ethics Commission secretary, would chair it. In May 2025, Ocampos and allies of deposed president Augusto Melo tried to remove Tuma. The move was not formalised, was treated internally as an attempted coup, and is under Ethics Commission review.
