Breno Bidon settled Corinthians’ Conmebol Libertadores last 16 second leg against Rosario after Raniele was dismissed early in the second half. According to Globo.com, the midfielder’s close-range touch from a Memphis Depay free-kick proved decisive with Corinthians down to 10.
In the first half, Kaio César forced Ledesma into a fine save from distance. Matheuzinho impressed with timely challenges and Gustavo Henrique was assured at the back.
Raniele saw red on 12 minutes of the second half for catching Copetti’s thigh with his studs. Booked earlier, he had still broken up play effectively while on.
Depay arrived on 24 minutes and lifted the team. On 34 minutes he delivered a free-kick into the area, where Bidon glanced in after Matheus Bidu had won the foul.
Hugo Souza made a strong stop on 39 minutes and was otherwise rarely tested. João Pedro came on late to help protect the lead, while Charles entered in stoppage time. Carrillo aided the build-up and kept the ball in the closing stages.
Pedro Raul struggled to influence proceedings, offered little movement and was easily contained. Garro had a subdued night and lacked invention, with Raul’s static display not helping. Gabriel Paulista misjudged one rare Rosario attack but Copetti shot over, and Fernando Diniz tightened his team well with 10 men.
