Raniele will miss Corinthians’ Copa Libertadores quarter-final first leg after being sent off in Thursday's win over Rosario Central of Argentina.
On 17 minutes of the second half and already booked, the number 14 played the ball, but his left foot caught Copetti's knee. Referee Alexis Herrera initially gave no foul, then, after a VAR review, he produced a straight red. According to Meu Timao, the dismissal triggers an automatic suspension.
He will sit out the first leg against Estudiantes, scheduled for the week of 9 September. In principle, he could return for the second leg at Neo Química Arena the following week.
Corinthians were already without Allan on Thursday due to his red card in Rosário. In midfield, André Luiz remains sidelined with a right thigh injury.
Raniele has been a regular under Fernando Diniz, making 38 appearances this season and scoring two goals. It was his second sending off for the club.
Despite the red, he is eligible for the Brasileirão trip to Coritiba on Sunday, 23, with kick-off at 19:30 at Couto Pereira, in round 24.
