Corinthians have updated their Libertadores squad for the last 16, adding four players ahead of the tie with Rosario Central of Argentina. Midfielder Alex Santana joins academy prospects Lucca Caramico, Gui Amorim and Léo Rodrigues.
According to Meu Timao, they replace defender Cauã Ribeiro and midfielders Guilherme Pires, Luiz Eduardo and Vitinho Dourado.
At the start of the competition, Alex Santana had been separated from the first team by then coach Dorival Júnior. He was reintegrated after Fernando Diniz arrived. The coach also opted to include Léo Rodrigues, 16, who signed his first professional deal last week and is the leading figure among the club’s older youth groups.
Lucca Caramico has also been promoted. The attacking midfielder is the Under-17 team’s top scorer with 14 goals this season, 10 in the national championship. Gui Amorim, viewed as one of the academy’s standout talents despite a tougher year, completes the list of additions.
Conmebol regulations permit up to five changes between the group stage and the last 16, with further updates allowed before the quarter-finals and semi-finals. Clubs may make up to three changes by 18:00 on four September for the quarter-finals, and until 18:00 on nine October for the semi-finals, Brasília time.
Corinthians could still register reinforcements if they progress. The club currently face three transfer bans and have not made signings in the current window, while Brazil’s registration period remains open until 11 September.
The first leg at Rosario Central is on Thursday at 21:30. The return is the following week at 21:30 at Neo Química Arena.
