Corinthians lost 2-1 to Chapecoense at Neo Química Arena on Sunday night in the 26th round of the Brasileirão, staying 11th on 32 points and with the gap to the Copa Libertadores places widened.
According to Meu Timao, they were in the same position before kick-off, and victory would have taken them to 35 points and potentially up to 10th, above São Paulo.
The defeat also left them behind São Paulo on tiebreakers. Red Bull Bragantino sit ninth on 35, while Atlético-MG, Coritiba and Cruzeiro round off the 2027 Copa Sul-Americana qualifying spots.
In the chase for Libertadores berths, Corinthians are 11 points adrift of fifth-placed Bahia on 43. Fluminense follow on 45, Palmeiras have 53 and Flamengo lead on 54.
Santos, in 12th, are level with Corinthians but behind on tiebreakers. Botafogo have 31 points, with Vitória on 29, one more than Grêmio and Mirassol.
In the drop zone, Vasco are 17th with 25, seven fewer than Corinthians. Internacional have the same total as the Cariocas, Remo are 19th with 23 and Chapecoense remain bottom on 17.
The round concludes on Monday when Vitória host Grêmio at 20:00 at Barradão. A Grêmio win would lift them above Vitória and edge them towards the mid-table pack.
Corinthians now turn to Wednesday, visiting Estudiantes for the first leg of the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals at Estadio Jorge Luis Hirschi, with kick-off at 21:30.
