Corinthians seal first away win over Cruzeiro in more than three years | OneFootball

Corinthians beat Cruzeiro 1-0 in the Brasileirão Feminino quarter-finals at Arena Independência, their first away win over Cruzeiro in more than three years.

Their previous away success came in June 2023 in the league at Estádio Soares de Azevedo, a 2-1 victory sealed by Gabi Zanotti and Vic Albuquerque. The next four meetings brought two Cruzeiro wins and two draws.

In 2024 the sides met only once in the league, where Corinthians were well beaten 7-2 at Estádio Castor Cifuentes.

Last season they faced off twice. In August, at the same ground, a 1-1 draw in the Copa do Brasil’s third phase was followed by a 4-2 shootout win for Corinthians, though the match is officially recorded as a draw.

A month later, the first leg of the league final ended 2-2 at Arena Independência. Corinthians won the return 1-0 at Neo Química Arena thanks to Thaís Ferreira to secure the title.

In May this year Cruzeiro edged the league meeting 3-2 at Arena do Jacaré.

Monday’s 1-0 gives Corinthians a slender advantage before the home second leg on Monday 7 September at 17:00. The venue is yet to be confirmed, as Fazendinha cannot host because its capacity is below 10,000.
