Corinthians have shown interest in Arthur Melo, 29, who is owned by Juventus and spent last season on loan at Grêmio. Head coach Fernando Diniz wants another holding midfielder.

According to Café do Setorista, the club view the financial terms as outside budget.

Arthur did not remain at Grêmio for financial reasons.

Before making signings, Corinthians must resolve a Fifa transfer ban imposed over non-payment of the José Martínez deal with Philadelphia Union, United States.

Football executive Marcelo Paz has previously said player sales are needed to meet a R$ 151 million revenue target. André Luiz, who plays in Arthur’s role, is among the likeliest to depart, and Juventus showed interest in him in February this year.

Arthur came through at Grêmio and was central to their 2017 Copa Libertadores win, earning a move to Barcelona, where he won La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup and made Brazil’s 2019 Copa América-winning squad.

He later took in loans at Liverpool and Fiorentina, then returned to Grêmio for a year on loan. Now back in Turin, he is not expected to feature under Luciano Spalletti, with the club in the Europa League next season. He turns 30 in August and is under contract until July 2027.
