Corinthians slip three places in Paulistão after Supercopa delay

Due to the Supercopa do Brasil final last Sunday (1), in which the team won the title by defeating Flamengo 2-0 in Brasília, Corinthians did not play in the Campeonato Paulista this weekend. As a result, with other state matches taking place, the Alvinegro dropped three positions, falling from fourth to seventh place, with eight points accumulated in five games (two wins, two draws, and one loss – six goals scored and five conceded).

The club from Parque São Jorge lost positions to Guarani, Portuguesa, and Mirassol, respectively. The first won the Derby Campineiro against Ponte Preta, 1-0, at Brinco de Ouro da Princesa, jumping to 11 points. Lusa, on the other hand, overcame Primavera away, with a 2-1 comeback victory, reaching nine points. Finally, the last team reached eight points after drawing with Novorizontino 1-1 at Campos Maia, staying ahead of Alvinegro by goal difference (four to one).

Corinthians has three more commitments until the end of the first phase: Capivariano, Palmeiras, and São Bernardo. The first two matches will be at Neo Química Arena, while the game against the ABC Paulista team will be at Estádio Primeiro de Maio, in São Bernardo do Campo. It is worth remembering that the club from Parque São Jorge is the largest and current state champion, with 31 titles won.

After winning the Supercopa, Corinthians shifts its priorities back to the Campeonato Paulista. This is because Dorival Júnior's team will return to the field this Thursday (5), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time), to face Capivariano at Neo Química Arena, for the sixth round of the first phase of the Campeonato Paulista.
