Corinthians step up talks with Ukrainian club to keep Maycon

Corinthians is close to securing Maycon's stay for a longer period. The club has intensified negotiations with Shakhtar Donetsk, from Ukraine, and has progressed to secure the midfielder for three more seasons at Parque São Jorge, according to information from ge.globo.

Initially, the idea was to extend the contract through a new loan. However, this option did not have the player's approval, as he sought contractual stability and did not want to depend on annual renewals. Additionally, Maycon also ruled out a return to Ukrainian football due to the armed conflict with Russia.

As the talks progressed, Shakhtar agreed to release the player permanently, without requiring immediate payment. In return, the Ukrainians will retain 50% of the economic rights of the midfielder in case of a future sale.

Although the agreement is well underway, there are still administrative steps to be completed before it becomes official. The information that Shakhtar authorized the permanent negotiation, instead of a loan, was initially reported by ESPN.

Currently, Corinthians has a financial debt of about 1 million euros with the Ukrainian club, related to Maycon's previous loans. In February this year, FIFA ruled in favor of Shakhtar in a case against Timão, a decision that was contested by the São Paulo club at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Maycon's continuity in the squad was a direct request from coach Dorival Júnior, who sees the player as a key figure both in performance on the field and in the leadership aspect of the group.

At 28 years old, the number 7 played a prominent role in the recent Copa do Brasil victory. He was one of the team's captains and even wore the armband in the final against Vasco, held last Sunday at Maracanã.

A product of Corinthians' youth academy, Maycon has played 248 games for the club and scored 18 goals. Throughout his journey with the black and white jersey, he has won three Campeonato Paulista titles (2017, 2018, and 2025), the 2017 Campeonato Brasileiro, and the 2025 Copa do Brasil.
