Corinthians could hand 17-year-old centre-back Iago Machado his first senior minutes against Flamengo on Sunday, in round 27 of the Brasileirão.

He is well regarded by Fernando Diniz’s staff, and rotation is likely with a Libertadores semi-final place at stake against Estudiantes on Wednesday. According to ge.globo, Allan will not feature in Rio as the club will not pay the fee in his loan agreement from Flamengo.

The current first-choice pairing is Gabriel Paulista, 35, and Gustavo Henrique, 33. João Pedro Tchoca has been the leading back-up and could partner Iago, with André Ramalho still recovering from a bout of labyrinthitis.

A standout academy prospect, Iago has made 26 appearances across the under-20 and under-17 teams this year, scoring four goals. He has been named on the first-team bench regularly, including the last six matches.

He signed a contract addendum in October 2025, setting a R$66 million domestic clause, the highest among the club’s academy players, and 100 million euros for abroad. His deal runs until 16 April 2028.

Corinthians visit the Maracanã at 17:30 under pressure after four straight league defeats, sitting 12th on 32 points. They then host Estudiantes at 21:30 in Itaquera, with the first leg finishing 1-1 in Argentina.
