Corinthians to pay over R$2m in damages to ex-youth player until 2035

Corinthians was sentenced in the 6th Labor Court of São Paulo, by Judge Ivo Roberto Santarem Teles, to pay an amount of approximately R$ 2.5 million for moral damages and a monthly pension – of R$ 12,000 – to the athlete Kauê Moreira de Souza, who never played for the main team, until September 2035. The information was initially published by ge.globo.

The portal's report contacted the club, which has not yet commented. The athlete joined the Alvinegro to play in the youth categories in 2019 and stayed at the club until 2024. Kauê suffered a right knee injury and never returned to play at a high level. The athlete's lawyers claim that the continuation of his career ended up being harmed due to the injury suffered during training.

The player underwent a technical expert examination, which confirmed the damages suffered by Kauê due to the injury. In the process, the player's defense claims that “The plaintiff (Kauê) presents an intra-substantial patellar tendon injury surgically repaired, evolving with chronic pain and mobility limitations with reduced muscle strength. The plaintiff has partial work incapacity for activities that require sports practice, running, and squats with weight.”

The expert report, on the other hand, also stated that there is evidence that the injury prevented Kauê from being able to continue practicing his profession: “There is evidence of a work accident. There are limitations, possibly permanent, for activities as a professional athlete, with impairment of 15% of his mobility. There is no significant incapacity for other activities.”

In the decision, the judge emphasized that Corinthians was responsible for the athlete's injury. Therefore, the club from Parque São Jorge was ordered to pay R$ 50,000 in moral damages and R$ 12,000 in compensation for material damages until the player turns 35 years old. In addition, Alvinegro will have to cover the costs of the 13th salary and proportional vacation pay.

Before joining Corinthians in 2019, Kauê Souza went through the youth categories of Taboão da Serra, São Bernardo, and São Paulo. Later, he was loaned to Oeste before suffering the injury that led to Alvinegro's conviction in court. Afterwards, he joined the youth team of Marcílio Dias but did not play any matches.

After the end of his contract with Corinthians, he played five matches for the professional team of Itaberaí, in Goiás. This year, he returned to play in the local state championship, playing 20 minutes for Inhumas.
