Corinthians trio land in London for Copa das Campeãs after paperwork saga

On the afternoon of this Tuesday (27), midfielders Dayana Rodríguez and Paola García, along with forward Gisela Robledo, landed in London, England, to compete in the Champions Cup. The three are now available to Lucas Piccinato’s coaching staff, arriving a week late after issues with their documentation prevented them from boarding for the United Kingdom.

As initially reported by Meu Timão last week, the three athletes had documentation problems due to their nationalities. Venezuela and Colombia have stricter requirements for entry into the United Kingdom compared to Uruguay and Brazil. Newly signed Uruguayan forward Belén Aquino has been in England since the first day of the Brabas’ preparations.

The British government uses two criteria for entry into the United Kingdom: the ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization), which is processed more quickly, and the traditional visa. According to the website of the English authorities, Venezuela and Colombia do not have the mentioned digital authorization, which makes the entry process into the country more difficult.

Meu Timão also reported that FIFA assisted Corinthians in resolving the issue. The visas were only issued last Monday (26), and the delay in the process was due to matters beyond the control of Corinthians’ legal department. It’s worth noting that the Brabas debut in the competition this Wednesday (28), at 9:30 am (Brasília time), at the Gtech Community Stadium, against Gotham FC from the United States, in the semifinal of the international tournament.

If they advance, they will face Arsenal, from England, or ASFAR, from Morocco, in the grand final, which will take place at Wembley Stadium next Sunday (1).
