Corinthians urged to stay calm amid leadership chaos

Corinthians’ interim president, Osmar Stabile, held his first meeting with the men’s squad at the CT Joaquim Grava training complex this week, marking a symbolic moment amid the club’s ongoing leadership turmoil. Stabile, who stepped into the role after the overwhelming impeachment vote against Augusto Melo, was joined by vice-president Armando Mendonça and football director Fabinho Soldado in addressing players and technical staff.

According to Corinthians, Stabile used the opportunity to urge calm in the dressing room, emphasizing the importance of stability as the club navigates a turbulent period both on and off the pitch. His message reportedly sought to steady the group’s focus for the remainder of the season, with a nod to the “difficult moment” the club is experiencing due to political instability.

Stabile’s mandate comes after club councillors voted 176 to 57 to remove Melo. The interim president will serve until the club’s members have their say—either confirming the impeachment or reversing it—after which elections would be scheduled if needed. Until then, Stabile’s role is to bridge the gap and maintain continuity.

Fabinho Soldado, whose position as executive director of football has been reaffirmed under the new administration, played a visible role in the meeting alongside other members of Dorival Júnior’s coaching team and staff. The renewed backing for Soldado points to a desire for minimal disruption in football operations during a delicate transition.

Following the meeting, Corinthians began preparations for their upcoming league match against Vitória at the Neo Química Arena. Players who featured heavily in the previous game against Huracán were given limited training to aid recovery. Despite the off-field distractions, the squad is expected to keep its attention on results, with league fixtures taking precedence.

The episode comes as Corinthians continue to wrestle with off-field challenges, including the highly public political struggle and pressing financial concerns. Stabile, now at the helm, will be looking to stabilize both the club’s administration and the mood within the dressing room as Corinthians approach a decisive phase of the campaign.
