Corinthians Women’s full-back on season review, renewal talks

On the morning of last Sunday, the season came to an end for the Corinthians women's team. Even with a 1-0 victory over Palmeiras, the result was not enough to secure the Paulistão title, opening a period of uncertainty about who will stay and who will leave the club for the 2026 season.

Paulinha spoke about the uncertain scenario regarding her future at Corinthians. With a long history at the club, the full-back emphasized that the focus was on the finals, commented on the initial talks for a possible renewal, and reflected on the current moment.

“We were very focused on the games and the two finals we played, which were hugely important for all of us. I still don’t know what my future will be. We had a brief conversation and we are analyzing things, because each case is different. It’s ten years at Corinthians, not ten months. I know it wasn’t the season I wanted, but I’m sure I gave my best and did everything I could. These decisions don’t depend only on me, they rely heavily on the technical evaluation and the coach’s choices.” Paulinha began.

“What I do know is that I want to keep playing. I still have a lot of energy, a lot of strength, and I know I can contribute a lot to any team, wherever I am. Unfortunately, we didn’t achieve the result we wanted, nor the podium spot we dreamed of, but Corinthians is much bigger than that. We also can’t disregard the year we had: it was a brilliant season in very tough competitions. The teams are getting stronger and stronger, and things don’t always go as we expect. I’m sure next year will be very special for Corinthians, whether I stay or not. The girls will continue to shine.” she explained.

Analyzing her performance throughout the season, the player commented on the impact of tactical changes, spoke about adapting to different roles on the field, and highlighted the importance of a run of games for individual performance, in addition to reaffirming her dedication and the history she has built wearing the black and white shirt.

“The change in tactical scheme made things a bit harder. When the team plays with three center-backs, the role is more of a wing-back, while I feel more comfortable as a full-back in a 4-3-3, where I can better use my characteristics. Sometimes, the choices depend on the players’ profiles, prioritizing more offensive, wide, fast athletes with greater attacking quality.” she assessed.

“It wasn’t the season I wanted, but I feel prepared. A player needs a run of games to perform better, and when that doesn’t happen, it’s harder to show your best football. Even so, I keep working. Every day is a new opportunity. Whether I stay or not, I’ll keep dedicating myself as I always have. It’s not enough to just be a player, you have to be an athlete. I take care of myself, I’m aware of my experience, and I look back with a lot of pride: it’s been ten years of history, many titles, and many joys.” she concluded.

Paulinha has a contract with Corinthians until the end of this year. The right-back has been with the club since 2016 and has 197 wins, 40 draws, and 19 losses, as well as 17 titles won with the Brabas. In total, she has scored nine goals and provided 16 assists.
