Corinthians are working to have Rodrigo Garro available for the Supercopa Rei following surgery on his left wrist.

According to Globo.com, the club has set a 21-day timeline for the midfielder to resume ball work, with the aim of having him for Flamengo on 1 February at Mané Garrincha in Brasília.

To hit that target, Garro will train in double daily sessions over the next three weeks under the supervision of club physiotherapists.

He fractured the scaphoid in his left wrist on 21 December, the date of the second and decisive match with Vasco that sealed the Copa do Brasil title at the Maracanã.

He experienced pain during his holidays and, on returning to CT Joaquim Grava on 3 January, reported the problem. Initial treatment was conservative with a splint, before imaging and multiple hand opinions pointed to surgery as the best option.

On Wednesday morning he was operated on by Dr Flávio Faloppa at Hospital Albert Einstein in São Paulo, with Dr Ricardo Galotti, the club’s head of medical, present. Scaphoid recoveries typically range from three to eight weeks.

Corinthians believe he could be ready to train with impact within that period. In the meantime he will miss the first five rounds of the Paulista, against Ponte Preta, Bragantino, São Paulo, Santos and Velo Clube, and the Brasileiro opener with Bahia.
