Eduardo Coudet will end his tenure as River head coach on Thursday following their Copa Sudamericana elimination. According to SuperDepor.com, he will hold a 15:00 news conference at the Monumental with president Stéfano Di Carlo and technical secretary Enzo Francescoli to confirm his departure.

River went out in the last 16 after a lengthy penalty shootout, losing 8-7 to Independiente Santa Fe at the Monumental in Buenos Aires. The exit removed a key target for the second half of the year and heightened supporter unrest.

Coudet declined to speak to the media immediately after the defeat. He stayed at the stadium for several hours and met members of the board through the night to assess whether he would continue.

As time passed, the prospect of him staying weakened and a decision was taken to end his spell. River had turned to Coudet to lead a new phase, but poor domestic and international results, along with unconvincing performances, hastened his exit.

The board must now appoint an interim coach, then begin the search for a permanent successor while River continue their domestic schedule. Coudet will set out his reasons and say a public farewell at the news conference.
