The 28-year-old, who was set to depart The City Ground upon the expiry of his contract next week, featured 26 times in the league for the Reds as they achieved promotion to the Premier League last season.

The initial report states that talks are currently ongoing between the Championship outfit and Figueiredo’s representatives.

The experienced defender arrived in Nottingham in January 2018, proceeding to play regular football at The City Ground, before January additions this year hindered his progress.

Figueiredo looked like an improved figure under Steve Cooper and this is why this addition could pay dividends for the Tigers.

This is an area they definitely need to bolster if they want to play a back three – and the addition of a fresh voice can only be a good thing for Shota Arveladze’s side as they look to push for promotion to the Premier League.

Hull could benefit from tapping into his promotion-winning experience – and certainly has a decent amount of second-tier experience under his belt – maximising the chance of him adapting seamlessly to life at the MKM Stadium.

Curtis Davies would also be an excellent signing – but you just feel 28-year-old Figueiredo would be a better long-term option.

Available on a free too, this can only be a good thing for the Tigers who may want to spend transfer fees on players in other positions to give themselves the best chance of competing at the right end of the second-tier table next term.

This would be a strong signing for Hull this summer especially on a free transfer. Although the defender may have fallen down the pecking order a bit at Nottingham Forest, going to a club who are looking to push further up the table will no doubt suit him well to show his talent again.

He’s a player with plenty of experience gained from his time with Nottingham Forest and he has now got over 100 appearances in the league so he’s a solid addition to the side in that respect.

Furthermore, he’s been part of a Forest side that’s been able to build and become a better team which is what Hull are now looking to do too.

This could be a great bit of business from Hull and a sign of intent of the direction they are looking to go in as their new era gets underway.

The former Forest man would be a solid signing for the Tigers and should fit nicely into the starting lineup.

Arriving as a free agent should make this a cost-effective deal and his experience will be an invaluable addition to the first team squad.

The 28-year old also still has plenty to offer for a Championship side and should strengthen the team’s defence.

This is also a good next step for Figueiredo, who has found his level and can compete well for a side with Hull’s immediate ambitions.

He could ultimately bridge the gap towards a promotion challenging side over the next few years, if all else goes well.
