If Milan’s 2-0 defeat by Napoli in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final on Thursday night taught us anything, it is that the summer recruits Milan brought in have not delivered the results that were expected of them.

There have been a few costly flops so far: Koni De Winter’s showing was embarrassing, Hojlund was able to get past him with relative ease in the crucial moments.

Playing in a back three, but having no reserves playing up to a competitive standard is an issue.

As a result, rumours have been circulating since last night claiming that Milan have revived their interest in Brazil veteran Thiago Silva. ESPN specifically have reiterated that Allegri is keen to bring the 41-year-old centre-back back to San Siro. He has recently left Fluminense and is free to return to Europe should he please.

Allegri, and possibly Zlatan Ibrahimovic as well, could be keen on taking that punt on Thiago Silva, reconsidering a deal that had seemed unfeasible until now.

Given that Milan had not planned any further investments in the defensive department in the window, this is a situation that will certainly require in-depth evaluations from the club before any real moves are made.
