Former Everton chief executive suggests financial pressure could force Liverpool into a major decision in 2025

Could Mohamed Salah really be the price Liverpool must pay for PSG star?
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness believes Liverpool may only be able to pursue "golden transfer" such as signing Vitinha from Paris Saint Germain if they are willing to part ways with Mohamed Salah.
Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool in April 2025 extending his stay at Anfield until summer 2027 but rumours have intensified in recent weeks regarding his future after dip in form this season.
Speaking to Football Insider, Wyness said he doubts Liverpool & Arsenal can realistically compete for Vitinha due to the midfielder’s rising value and growing interest from Real Madrid.
He added that both English clubs would struggle with the financial outlay required, particularly Liverpool, given their spending in the summer.
"I think the sensible option is allowing Mohamed Salah to move to Saudi Arabia. I don’t know if that’s possible in January but the question is absolutely on the table"..
He argued that Liverpool will need to "recover funds" to justify such deal after significant summer expenditure.
