Tommy Doyle is back in Wolves training after a season on loan at Birmingham, and is being assessed for next season after relegation.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, his loan included a £10 million obligation to buy if Birmingham were promoted, but they finished 10th. He is training at Compton and cannot add to his Premier League tally this season as he is not in the registered squad.

Wolves are in a different place to when he agreed that move, with Rob Edwards replacing Vitor Pereira and the club now in the Championship.

A Manchester City academy graduate with seven senior outings, he spent the first half of 2021/22 at Hamburg, playing seven times, six in the German second tier. He then joined Cardiff, starting 17 of his 19 Championship games as they finished 18th.

His standout loan came at Sheffield United in 2022/23, when they sealed automatic promotion with a 2-0 win over West Brom. He hit a late FA Cup quarter-final winner against Blackburn but missed the semi-final against parent club City, and made 38 appearances, scoring four with seven assists.

Doyle then spent two full seasons with Wolves in the Premier League, making 58 appearances in total and 50 in the top flight. He started only 14 of those, 11 in his first campaign, before heading to Blues last season.

At Birmingham in 2025/26 he played 42 times in all, 38 in the Championship, providing four assists without scoring, and was sent off against Sheffield United in December. He started exactly half of his league games and featured regularly despite spells out of the side.

He now returns to a second-tier Wolves, and could feature next season.
