Memphis Depay has this week moved to bid farewell to La Liga giants Atlético Madrid.

As much comes amid confirmation that the Dutchman will bring a close to his short-lived stint on the books of the Rojiblancos this summer.

Depay, for his part, linked up with Diego Simeone’s Atlético in January of last year, from La Liga rivals Barcelona.

Unfortunately for the 30-year-old, however, his spell in Spain’s capital was marred by persistent injury problems, with as much having prevented Depay from ever really establishing himself as an undisputed starter at the Wanda Metropolitano.

This past season, the former PSV Eindhoven and Manchester United man racked up nine goals and two assists in 31 appearances across all competitions, the majority of which came from the bench.

Those behind the scenes in Madrid, as a result, had long come to the decision not to renew Depay’s expiring contract for next season.

Come the end of the month, he will, in turn, officially become a free agent.

The versatile attacker has therefore moved to bid a somewhat regretful farewell to all associated with Atlético Madrid.

Taking to his social media platforms, Depay, after admitting that he wished ‘things could’ve been different’, went on to thank all associated with the capital club for their support throughout his time with the club:
