A São Paulo civil court has suspended sections of Corinthians’ electoral rulebook for the upcoming presidential and Deliberative Council vote.
According to Globo.com, judge Renan Augusto Jacó Mota of the fifth Civil Court in the Tatuapé region granted an injunction in response to an action filed by member João de Oliveira, a lawyer linked to presidential pre-candidate André Negão.
The ruling removes any obligation for executive board and council candidates to pay enrolment charges or contribute to a special emergency electoral fund. It also scraps the need for prior re-registration or facial biometrics to vote, with members who meet the statute allowed to vote on presentation of official photo ID. The club must supply the full roll of eligible voters to representatives of duly registered slates within statutory deadlines.
Restrictions on clearing membership arrears beyond what the statute provides have also been set aside. The scrapped fees, R$ 330 for executive candidates and R$ 241 for council hopefuls, had been earmarked to cover election costs without dipping into the club’s strained coffers. Another shelved measure would have withheld the voters’ list from candidates on data protection grounds and tightened late payments to deter vote buying.
Candidate registration opened on Thursday and runs until 15 October. The election will pick a president and two vice-presidents, 200 councillors and 50 alternates for the 2027 to 2029 term.
