A São Paulo court has nullified the Deliberative Council vote and suspended the effects of the 23 March extraordinary meeting that had provisionally removed Romeu Tuma Júnior as president of Corinthians’ council.
According to Meu Timao, judge Antônio Manssur Filho of the second civil court in Tatuapé found signs of illegality in the procedure and granted Tuma’s urgent application. The session was called by club president Osmar Stabile over alleged threats, harassment and interference in executive work.
The ruling flagged four issues, an irregular convocation, no prior disciplinary case before the Ethics and Discipline Commission, flawed conduct of the meeting, and no statutory basis for a precautionary removal by the plenary.
It noted that, under the club statute, requests from the board president should be sent to the council’s board for the chair to issue the call. Tuma’s defence also said the meeting was closed by the acting chair, then later reopened and led by second secretary Denis Piovesan without statutory cover.
Tuma missed 23 March for health reasons, and councillors voted 115 to 15 for his removal by nominal ballot. He remained in post until taking leave during April’s statute debate, returning in mid June. In early June, judge Luciana Carone Nucci Eugênio Mahuad voided the official registration of the 13 April minutes after Tuma’s challenge.
