Jesse Lingard rejoined Corinthians first-team training on Monday after a trip to England for his grandfather’s funeral.

According to Meu Timao, the midfielder had been absent since the end of June, missing almost a week after the squad regrouped on 25 June following holidays that began on 31 May, the day after the 3-1 win at Grêmio.

Because of the days missed, he completed an individual session on Sunday while team-mates were off. Club social media footage on Monday showed him back with the group.

With Lingard back, the only absentee is Memphis Depay, who was given extra time off after featuring at the World Cup for the Netherlands. He stayed on the bench against Morocco as the Dutch went out. Corinthians have not confirmed when he will return to training.

Lingard is working to regain sharpness as he looks to be available to Fernando Diniz for Sunday’s friendly against Cascavel at 16:00 at Estádio Olímpico Regional Jacy Miguel Scanagatta in Paraná. The first competitive fixture is scheduled for 23, against Remo, in the 19th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
