Philippe Coutinho attended Santos' home match against Cruzeiro at Vila Belmiro on Saturday, with the 34-year-old close to being announced as a new signing by the club.
According to Globo.com, Coutinho watched from a stadium box after completing morning physical assessments and on-pitch tests at the CT Rei Pelé training complex. The fixture was part of the 27th round of the Campeonato Brasileiro.
Neymar welcomed him on social media the same day, and Coutinho's proposed arrival was requested personally by Santos' No 10.
Coutinho has not featured for seven months, last playing on 14 February for Vasco against Volta Redonda in the Campeonato Carioca.
A week later he ended his contract with the Rio club to focus on his mental health. Pressure from Vasco supporters weighed on the early exit, which had been due to run until mid-year.
Since then he has taken a break while maintaining fitness, working with the ball and continuing individual physical work.
