Frank Lampard has been linked with replacing Oliver Glasner at Crystal Palace amid Coventry City’s pursuit of promotion to the Premier League.

According to talkSPORT, the 47-year-old is supported by chairman Steve Parish, and has been shortlisted as an option to take over from the Austrian.

Glasner’s contract is set to expire in the summer, and he has already confirmed that he is not seeking a renewal.

The 51-year-old oversaw the club’s first ever triumph in the FA Cup last season, and is aiming to lead the team to success in the Conference League this term.

However, he has hit back at the Eagles’ hierarchy this month, claiming the squad has felt abandoned after captain Marc Guehi was sold to Manchester City on the eve of their clash against Sunderland, which has led to speculation surrounding his immediate future.

Frank Lampard could be tempted by Crystal Palace switch

When asked about Lampard being linked with the Palace job, FLW’s Coventry fan pundit Chris Deez claimed that a move right now is unlikely, unless something wild happens in the next few days, as Glasner will stay until the summer.

But he is concerned that Doug King’s lack of financial backing in the transfer market could tip the Sky Blues’ manager towards the exit door if the London outfit come knocking.

“I’ve seen Lampard’s name mentioned quite a few times today in regards to the Crystal Palace manager’s job, but I’m not particularly worried because I think what a lot of people aren’t remembering is that Glasner is at Palace until at least the summer, unless something wild happens in the next week or so,” Deez told Football League World.

“Lampard’s not going to be their manager anytime soon, he’s going to be with us until at least the summer.

“If we don’t get promoted, which I am starting to get worried about more and more as everyday goes past, if we don’t get promoted I can absolutely see him taking the Palace job — why wouldn’t he?

“They’re a club with money to spend, and they’re an established Premier League club now, and they’re in London as well, which obviously he has strong links to London from his playing career.

“What worries me more is we can’t keep a clean sheet at the minute, and I think that’s going to be our downfall, and I’m getting more and more worried that we’re going to throw away — I mean we’ve already thrown away a gigantic gap at the top of the league.

“So I wouldn’t blame Lampard one bit if he’s off in the summer because it doesn’t look like Doug King has any interest in backing him, other than a couple of loans.

“Which I think was the feeling this was going to happen back in the summer when he was incredibly inactive all window and then just brought in one centre-back in Woolfenden on deadline day.

“He wants us to get promoted, but on as much of a shoestring budget as possible, I think the man is scared to spend money.”

Coventry are aiming to earn a place in the Premier League for the first time since 2001, having reached the play-offs last season.

The Sky Blues have led the way at the top of the Championship table for the majority of the campaign, and they are still eight points clear of second place Ipswich Town.

Lampard has earned a lot of plaudits since his arrival at the CBS Arena in November 2024, and earning promotion this season would only enhance the interest around him.

Next up for Coventry is a trip to face Norwich City on 26 January in an 8pm kick-off.

Crystal Palace job will be tempting regardless of promotion for Coventry

Crystal Palace have established themselves as one of the top clubs in the Premier League’s middle class, so they will be a tempting proposition for Lampard regardless of how this season finishes.

The Sky Blues are in a strong position to gain promotion to the top flight, even if they’ve had a slight dip in form lately, but it will take a lot of investment and effort, as well as some luck, to become as established in the first division as Palace are right now.

Lampard will see the potential to take a step-up in the world of management, and that will be appealing.

While Glasner has his reasons for being aggrieved with how things are going at the moment, it will still be a position that a lot of coaches will want in the summer.
