Police have dismantled a criminal network that planned kidnappings and robberies targeting French public figures, including Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé, according to Le Parisien.

The alleged leader, Clément L., 18, was charged over violent break-ins and kidnap plots in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt and Santenay. After his arrest he was jailed and placed in solitary confinement. Another suspected member was released under judicial supervision.

Clément was already on remand over offences linked to rape, pimping and a robbery by an organised group. From Villepinte prison he had allegedly continued to direct the network via mobile phones and Snapchat under the alias "Lester Z".

Prison staff found two phones in his cell. Investigators discovered a list with 26 addresses of intended targets, including Mbappé and a well-known rapper, along with singers, jewellers, businesspeople and two wholesalers, one Chinese and one in the meat trade.

In judicial statements, Clément L. acknowledged the seriousness of the case, though he sought to limit his culpability by claiming he acted only as an intermediary.
