Police have dismantled a criminal group accused of plotting kidnappings and robberies targeting French public figures, including Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappé. According to Le Parisien, parts of the operation were coordinated from inside prison.

Clément L., 18, was already in pre-trial detention over offences linked to rape, pimping and a robbery by an organised gang. From Villepinte prison he is alleged to have continued directing the network using mobile phones and Snapchat under the alias "Lester Z".

Prison staff found two phones in his cell. Investigators discovered a list of 26 addresses for intended targets, featuring Mbappé and a well-known rapper, along with singers, jewellers, businesspeople and two wholesalers, one Chinese and one dealing in meat, identified as wealthy.

In the current case, the alleged ringleader has been charged over several violent break-ins and kidnap plots in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Saint-Brice-sous-Forêt and Santenay. Following his arrest he was placed in isolation in prison, while another suspected member was released under judicial supervision.

In court statements, Clément L. acknowledged the gravity of the case but sought to minimise his role, saying he acted only as an intermediary.
